CHAMPAIGN CO : 2 killed, child hurt in Champaign County head-on crash at State Road 29 and South Ludlow Street in Union Township on Tuesday, 22nd January 2019

Two people are dead and a child is hospitalized after a head-on crash in Champaign County.

The crash happened around 12:20 AM Tuesday State Road 29 and South Ludlow Street in Union Township.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office says 24-year-old Clayton DeArmond, Jr. from Springfield was driving west on S.R. 29 when his car crossed the center line. Dearmond's car hit an oncoming vehicle driven by 21-year-old Courtney Cummings of Urbana.

Both DeArmond and Cummings died a the scene.

A one-year-old was inside Cummings' car and was taken to Urbana Mercy Hospital. The child was later flown to Miami Valley Hospital.

Police say Cummings and the one-year-old were properly restrained in the vehicle. DeArmond, according to police, was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash is still under investigation.
