Castaic, CA : Truck driver killed after collision with white Lexus sedan at Interstate 5 On Thursday, July 14th, 2016
The big rig driver involved in a crash on Interstate 5 north of Castaic Thursday afternoon was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m., according to CHP officer Eric Preissman.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle after plunging down an embankment from the southbound lanes of I-5.
The crash happened shortly after 11:35 a.m. Thursday when the big rig and a white Lexus sedan collided near a portion of the freeway that crosses over the northbound lanes, referred to by emergency response crews as the
“upper crossover.”
“We got the call as a big rig down an embankment, person trapped,” said a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters and paramedics dispatched to the scene at 11:40 a.m. arrived at the crash site at 11:53 a.m., she said.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol are investigating reports that the driver of the Lexus fell asleep at the wheel, causing the collision, said CHP Officer Josh Greengard.
