Oklahoma City, OK : seven-year-old child injured after being hit by a car in Hefner Hollow apartment near Lyrewood Lane on Sunday night, March 1, 2015
A 7-year-old girl is recovering after being pinned underneath an SUV.
Police said the driver slammed into the northwest Oklahoma City apartment on Sunday then ran off.
Flying passed the front door, the SUV parked right inside one family's living room.
Neighbors said the little girl was sweeping the floor when a 2004 Honda Element came barreling through the brick and swept on top of her.
It happened around 8 p.m. at the Hefner Hollow Apartments on Lyrewood Lane near Wilshire Boulevard.
Police said the SUV driver was speeding, hit a slick spot and lost control before slamming into the wall.
The little girl was trapped between the couch and the car.
Crews could only see her head as the rest of her body was wedged underneath the SUV.
Family and firefighters rushed to release her. The girl was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The next day, the apartment was empty, and a wooden board stood where there used to be a wall.
Rubble and rocks set the landscape and there were long muddy tire tracks showing where the SUV crashed.
As for the driver, police said he took off on foot, but they did catch up to two passengers who were inside the SUV.
"Officers were able to locate two people, however, they were unable to confirm exactly what role those people played. They were released at the scene pending further investigation," said Sgt. Gary Knight of Oklahoma City police.
No arrests have been made.
The girl was one of five children living in the apartment, and no other injuries were reported.
