One dead after accident Sunday on I-275 in Tampa
A passenger died after a car spun and hit a guard rail Sunday on Interstate 275, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Martha Decimus, 34 of Tampa was driving a 1992 Mazda Protege north on I-275 just south of Bird Street at 9:05 a.m. Sunday, FHP spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins said. Decimus moved right to change lanes and, when she noticed that another vehicle was in that lane, swerved left. Gaskins said Decimus swerved a second time to the right, sending the car into a clockwise spin across three lanes of traffic until it hit a guardrail on the outside shoulder. After hitting the guardrail, Gaskins said, the car traveled back across all lanes and finally came to rest in an inside lane.
One passenger, 63-year-old Junette Bazile of Tampa died later that day at St. Joseph's Hospital from injuries related to the crash, Gaskins said. Decimus and her two children, ages 8 and 3, were treated for minor injuries at St. Joseph's Hospital.
