Six people were injured, two seriously on U.S 41

Six people were injured, two seriously, after one car pulled out in front of another around 8:30 p.m. Friday on U.S. 41 in Sarasota, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The report says a 2012 Lincoln MKZ driven by Pamela A. Monk, 68, of Canada was stopped facing west at the stop sign on Gulf Avenue at the intersection of U.S. 41. Monk reportedly proceeded from the stop to turn left without seeing an approaching 2004 Chrysler Sebring being driven northbound by a 16-year-old Venice girl. The girl steered to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the front of the Chrysler stuck the left side of the Lincoln.

The girl and her passenger, Lorie Jean Holmes, 37, of Venice were taken to Venice Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries reported as minor. She was cited for faulty equipment (bald tire).

Monk and one of her passengers, Albert C. Deslippe, 79, of Canada reportedly suffered serious injuries. Monk was taken to Venice Regional while Deslippe was treated at Sarasota Memorial. The other two passengers in the Lincoln, Jannet I. and Michael Munger, were treated for minor injuries at Venice Regional.

Monk was charged with violation of right of way from a stop sign.
