Orlando, FL : Woman fleeing officer ran red light, killed driver in crash on Sunday, February 28, 2016
A woman ran a red light and killed the driver of another car after a Orange County deputy tried to stop her for a traffic violation, according to authorities.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Syndia Saint Cyr, 27, of Orlando ran a red light at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Americana Boulevard around 1:50 a.m. Sunday and hit a car driven by Cody Garrick, 23, of Orlando.
Garrick, a father of a young girl, died in the crash, troopers said.
"He was only 23 and he was telling me all his goals," said the victim's mother Tammy Garrick. "He was going to have a house for him and his daughter. Now he'll never get to do all that. She'll never get to see her dad again."
Just prior to the accident, an Orange County deputy had tried to stop Saint Cyr for speeding, but she fled from the deputy and continued northbound on John Young Parkway, authorities said.
The deputy ended the pursuit at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Oakridge Drive, troopers said.
Authorities said that when Saint Cyr got to the intersection of John Young Parkway and Americana, she ran the red light, hitting Garrick.
Saint Cyr was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was arrested and charged with driving while her license was revoked involving a death-vehicular homicide.
"She walked away with scratches and my son lost his life. I want her to stay in jail for the rest of her life," said Tammy Garrick.
A judge revoked Saint Cyr's bond at an initial appearance hearing on Monday.
According to records, Saint Cyr has been cited for careless driving, speeding, fleeing and eluding, red light running and DUI with a minor since 2005. Saint Cyr is scheduled to go to trial in April on charges from an incident in November in which her license was revoked.
