Two people were killed and three others were injured on Interstate 81 in Maryland Friday in a crash involving four tractor-trailers and two cars, Maryland State Police said.
Southbound I-81 is closed near the crash, which happened about 9:40 a.m. north of Hagerstown, near mile marker 10, police said. That’s near the exit for the Hagerstown airport.
A Chevrolet Tahoe apparently struck the back of tractor-trailer that was braking for traffic, police said. That caused a train reactions with three other tractor-trailers and a pickup truck.
The driver of the Tahoe, 55-year-old Wesley Merrick of Wellsville, New York, and a passenger, Alicia Eve Cornell, also of Wellsville, died at the scene, police said.
