Houston, Tx : Child on bicycle hit, killed by suspected drunk driver in SE Houston on May 4th 2014

A driver who police say was speeding and possibly drunk ran over and killed a child on a bicycle in southeast Houston last night.

This happened on Lenore at Arizona around 10pm. Police say the young child was visiting his grandparents.

Witnesses told police the child was on his bicycle when a driver in a pickup truck was speeding down the Lenore Street and hit him.

"The driver of the truck was detained and was given standardized field sobriety test, which he failed and we are waiting for the results of his blood alcohol analysis," said Officer JR Roberts with the Houston Police Department.

Neighbors called 911 and the child was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital, where he later died.

The driver could face DWI and manslaughter charges.
