Newbury Township, OH : Four people hurt in Geauga County crash on state Route 87 on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2014
Four people were injured in a crash between an armored vehicle and a dump truck Tuesday morning.
According to the State Highway Patrol, Bobbie Jean Phillips, 25, of Cleveland was eastbound on state Route 87 in a 200 Ford F-650 armored car about 11 a.m., and Andrew Householder, 37, of Roaming Shores, Ohio, was westbound.
Phillips lost control of the armored car, which is owned by Garda CL Great Lakes, and rotated and crossed the center line, striking the dump truck, the patrol said.
The dump truck was forced off the road and lost its load of gravel. A fire resulted from the collision and leaking diesel fuel and was extinguished using a fire extinguisher by two employees from a local business.
Phillips, Householder and Charles Rohr, 24, of Chardon, a passenger in the dump truck, were taken to Hillcrest Hospital with serious injuries.
Delano Harris, 35, of Euclid, a passenger in the armored car was taken to Geauga Hospital with minor injuries.
State Route 87 was closed for about four hours while crews investigated and cleaned up the fuel spill.
