Orlando, Fla : Man killed in Alleged DUI Crash in south orange county on April 27th 2014
The family of a local man who was killed when a suspected drunken driver slammed into the back of his car commented on the crash Sunday.
Luis Gil, 57, died in the crash early Saturday morning on John Young Parkway at Deerfield Boulevard. Florida Highway Patrol suspect 45-year-old Eduardo Medina is responsible for the crash and believe he was driving drunk around 2 a.m. Saturday.
"He (the driver of the vehicle that killed Gil) took a big part, not just our lives, but other people('s) lives. He (Luis Gil) was a great man. He took a friend, a son. He took a husband, a dad," said Pricila Gil, Luis Gil's daughter.
Troopers said the light at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Deerfield turned red, but that Medina allegedly did not stop and crashed his car into the back of Luis Gil's Kia Spectra. The impact sent Gil's vehicle spinning into two other vehicles.
The victim's 15-year-old daughter said her father was on his way home from work when the crash happened.
"You hear on the news all the time about drunk drivers and you feel bad, but you never really know how it feels until it happens to you, and it affects you a lot," Gil’s daughter said. "It affects everybody."
