Fort Myers, FL : 22-year-old bicyclist injured in Cape crash Tuesday, August 16, 2016

A Cape Coral cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after a crash Tuesday morning.

Damian Robert Willard, 22, was injured after a crash at the intersection of Pine Island Road and Chiquita Boulevard. The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Willard was crossing Pine Island Road when the light turned from red to green. A stopped 2014 Toyota Tundra began to move forward into the intersection after the light changed and drove into Willard and his bike.

Willard, who wasn't' wearing a helmet, was knocked to the ground.

He was transported to the hospital with a life-threatening head injury.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
