Winter Haven, FL : Woman killed, two children injured in a Pasco County crash Monday afternoon, July 18, 2016

A teacher and mother of two was killed in a Pasco County crash Monday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

Tiffanie Michelle Hughes, 33, of Winter Haven, was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel where she died of her injuries, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins of FHP.

Two children riding in her car, Lane Hughes, 11, and Devon Blackmon, 10, were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. when Hughes was heading west on State Road 54 west of Loury Drive in a 2016 Toyota 4Runner while Koosh Raahul Patel, 17, of Wesley Chapel, was heading east on SR 54 in a 2009 Mazda CX-9, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins of FHP.

The two vehicles collided head-on when the Mazda, for unknown reasons, crossed over the center line of the roadway, Gaskins said.

The Toyota rotated and came to a final rest on the north shoulder of the roadway while the Mazda came to rest in the eastbound lane, reports said.

Patel and his 52-year-old passenger, Raahul Vallabhbhai Patel, did not need to be taken to the hospital, Gaskins said.

Hughes was a first-grade teacher at Woodland Elementary School in Zephyrhills, according to the school's website.

Friends and family took to social media to express their shock and grief over the sudden loss of Hughes, who was a mother to an 11-year-old and 8-year-old.

Lorie Bryant, who identified herself as Hughes' mother, posted that Hughes will be "greatly missed but never forgotten."

"She lives in our memories as well as in the hearts of her two beautiful sons," she wrote.
