Baton Rouge,LA : Alexandria man killed, Baton Rouge police officer moderately injured in crash on Tuesday, 8th May 2018
A man died in the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle crash earlier in the day that involved a Baton Rouge police officer in an unmarked vehicle, officials said.
The driver of a pickup truck, 63-year-old John Brady, of Alexandria, died following the crash at the intersection of Plank and Blount Roads with an unmarked Baton Rouge Police vehicle, said Louisiana State Police spokesman Senior Trooper Bryan Lee.
For reasons unknown, just after 9 a.m. Brady pulled into the path of the unmarked police vehicle, driven by officer Ronald Norman Jr., 34, Lee said. Brady had been traveling eastbound on Blount Road in a Ford F-150, and Norman had been traveling southbound on Plank Road in the BRPD Dodge Charger, Lee said.
Brady, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his truck. Norman, who also was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries, Lee said.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. said Norman was en route to an extra duty assignment when the crash occurred.
Lee said impairment is not expected to be a factor in the crash, but toxicology samples were taken from both drivers.
Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the crash.
