Chapin, SC : Suspected drunk driver crashes into Chapin officer's patrol car on Saturday, July 25, 2015

A Chapin police officer is recovering after his stopped cruiser was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

Chapin police officials said Officer J. Caulder was parked on the side of the road in front of the entrance to the new IT park near Brighton Boulevard and Columbia Avenue at 3:20 a.m. when a driver ran off the road, through a ditch, and into the back of Caulder's patrol car.

Emma Elizabeth Ellis was arrested and charged with DUI. She was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.

Officer Caulder was taken to the ER with minor injuries and has been released.
