Hammond, LA : Husser man dies in crash on La. 442 east of the Tangipahoa River bridge on Friday, October 21, 2016

A crash on La. 442 east of the Tangipahoa River bridge claimed the life of Husser resident Keil Heinz Albers on Friday.

Albers, 68, was properly restrained in the front passenger seat when the 1992 Mazda Miata driven by Husser resident Gary A. Passman, 60, left the roadway of LA 442 shortly before before 5 p.m., state police said. However, Albers suffered severe injuries when the car went down an embankment, flipped and landed upside down. The parish coroner's office pronounced him dead on the scene.

Passman, who was not properly restrained during the crash, received moderate injuries and was taken to North Oaks Health Systems for treatment.

At this time, troopers do not suspect speed or impairment were factors in the wreck. As part of the investigation, Troopers got voluntary blood samples from Passman. The samples will be analyzed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

The crash remains under investigation and any criminal charges will be referred to the 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office.
