Scottsburg, OR : Reedsport man killed in dirt bike crash near Loon Lake on Friday, July 4, 2014

A man died July 4 when he crashed an off-road motorcycle near Loon Lake, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

Chad Raymond Davenport, 21, of Reedsport was found deceased at the crash scene.

Davenport was camping with friends when he left camp on a friend's Yamaha dirt bike, the sheriff's office said. Davenport was not wearing a helmet.

When he failed to return, his friends went looking for him. They found him dead a short distance from camp.

The sheriff's office responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m.

Investigators believe Davenport was riding on Camp Creek Road when he missed a corner and launched off the road. He crashed on some boulders by a creek.
