Kittery, ME : Woman hospitalized after 2-car crash in Kittery on Route 236 Tuesday afternoon on July 1, 2014
A two-car accident on Route 236 sent one person to the hospital and snarled traffic just as the evening commute started Tuesday afternoon.
Both cars were demolished, said police, as a result of the accident which occurred just after 3:30 p.m.
According to police, a black 2008 PT Cruiser was traveling on the Route 1 ramp and was turning left to head toward the Memorial Circle when the accident occurred. The driver, Denice Desimone of Berwick, told police she had stopped before proceeding onto the roadway.
The second car, a 2011 Honda Odyssey, was traveling north on Route 236 and straight into the path of Desimone’s car, which had pulled out just at that moment. That car was driven by Diana Marzinik of Eliot, police said.
Both cars received serious front-end damage and had to be separated by firefighters on the scene. Police said Marzinik had the right of way.
The cars were blocking one of two northbound lanes, requiring police to move traffic around the scene. Traffic coming off of the ramp alternated with traffic coming from the circle.
Marzinik was taken by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with a possible fractured wrist. Desimone was not injured, and her passenger suffered a cut to the knee but did not require transport.
“It’s a busy time of day for something like this to have happened,” Lt. Russ French said at the scene.
