A Thomasville man died Wednesday night when his pickup ran off the ramp from Interstate 40 to U.S. 311 and struck a tree, authorities said Thursday.
Nicholas David Sgroi, 23, of Rich Hilton Road was pronounced dead at the scene about midnight, Winston-Salem police said.
Sgroi was the only occupant in his 2007 Dodge Ram pickup, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The police department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash.
Sgroi’s death is the city’s ninth traffic fatality this year, as compared with 12 fatalities at this time in 2015, police said.
