Decatur, AL : Tennessee woman dies, man injured in I-65 wreck near Athens Wednesday afternoon, October 12, 2016
A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 65 near Athens claimed the life of a Tennessee woman and injured two others Wednesday afternoon, Alabama troopers said.
Susan T. Wilson, 54, of Burns, Tennessee, was fatally injured when her Subaru was struck by a 2013 Kia drive by Stanley Wiggins, of Decatur. Wilson was transported from the scene to a local hospital, where she later died from the injuries, state troopers spokesman Curtis Summerville said in a statement.
Wiggins, 28, and a passenger in Wilson's vehicle were transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries, Summerville said. The accident occurred at mile marker 348 near the Huntsville-Brownsferry Road interchange, about 2 miles south of Athens, at 3:14 p.m.
No further details were available as troopers continue to investigate.
