Aiken, SC : North Augusta woman dead after Monday night crash on Monday, July 31, 2017
An 18-year-old North Augusta woman was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon following a Monday evening crash.
Ashlynn Nicole Overton was transported to Augusta University Medical Center after being ejected from the 2016 Nissan she was driving in a crash that injured five other people, according to a news release from Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Overton was not at fault, according to the coroner's release.
The crash happened in the 900 block of Edgefield Road in North Augusta.
According to the release, both Overton and Stephanie McCluggage, driver of a 2008 Pontiac, were traveling north on Highway 25 at around 10:56 p.m. Monday when the Pontiac struck the curb, cross over two northbound lanes and struck Overton's vehicle, causing the Nissan to overturn.
Overton was ejected from the vehicle and transported to AUMC Shock Trauma. Overton never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at 1:14 p.m. Tuesday. The cause of death was multiple body trauma, according to the release.
The release states that none of the other victims are thought to have life threatening injuries.
North Augusta Department of Public Safety is investigating and toxicology results are pending, according to the release.
