A Glide woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Oregon Highway 138E near milepost 15.
At approximately 5:58 p.m. Tuesday, a 1982 Dodge Dakota pickup, driven by Darlene Denise Buckland, 63, of Glide, and with passenger Lori Kaye Welter, 57, of Roseburg, pulled onto the highway from Wild River Drive, into the path of a westbound 2008 Toyota Tundra, driven by Edward Gordon Owings, 43, of Idleyld Park.
The Toyota struck the Dodge on the side, killing Buckland and injuring Welter who was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.
Owings was not injured in the crash and he was not issued any citations, according to police. He was wearing safety restraints.
Police were not able to determine whether Buckland and Welter were wearing safety restraints, or if intoxicants were a factor.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after Oregon State Police troopers first arrived at the crash at approximately 6:08 p.m. The highway was closed in both directions for a couple hours. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes as crews conducted a reconstruction of the scene.
The crash site is still part of an ongoing investigation. More information will be published as it comes available from authorities. Oregon State Police is being assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Glide Fire, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
