Wall Township, NJ : One person in critical condition following parkway crash on Wednesday, March 30, 2016
Freehold Borough, New Jersey
A driver who was ejected in a car crash on the Garden State Parkway Wednesday remains in critical condition as of Thursday morning.
The driver, Henry J. Roman, 33, of Boonton, was traveling in the right-center lane southbound on the Parkway in his 1988 Chevrolet truck when he encountered heavy traffic near milepost 96.3, according to a New Jersey State Police spokesman, Sgt. Jeff Flynn.
As Roman was breaking, Flynn said, he lost control of his truck and struck the right guardrail. The impact caused the truck to overturn and Roman was ejected, Flynn added.
A rack that was on the back of the truck dislodged on impact, and hit the front of a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck, Flynn said. The driver of the pickup truck, Stephan Tinsley, 27, of Newark, received minor injuries as a result of the crash.
Roman was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with serious injuries. As of Thursday morning, he remained in critical condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The crash was reported at 3:14 p.m. and three lanes of the highway were closed for at least an hour, causing a traffic backup for miles.
The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed as of Thursday morning, Flynn said.
