Coalville, UT : Rich County man killed in rear-end crash on I-80 on Thursday night, March 26, 2015
A Rich County man whose car may have been having mechanical problems was rear-ended by a pickup truck Thursday night. He was ejected in the accident and died.
George O. Frazier, 71, of Woodruff, was driving a GMC Envoy on I-80 about 6:15 p.m. The Utah Highway Patrol says Frazier's vehicle was traveling much slower than the speed limit and his vehicle was partially in the right lane and partially in the emergency lane. His car may have been experiencing mechanical problems and Frazier may have been pulling out of the emergency lane into the travel lane when he was hit, according to the UHP.
A Dodge Ram 3500 moving at freeway speed hit the rear of the Envoy near the Coalville exit. Frazier was ejected from his car in the subsequent crash that caused his car to roll and catch fire, according to the UHP. A female passenger was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup was not injured.
