A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper has been released from the hospital after a pickup truck crashed into his patrol vehicle on I-70 on Wednesday.

It happened at around 2 p.m. on westbound I-70 near I-135 in Saline County. The patrol said the 64-year-old trooper was stopped on the right shoulder with his vehicle's lights activated when a Dodge Ram 2500 entered the shoulder and struck the trooper's SUV.

The trooper was trapped inside his patrol vehicle when help arrived but was conscious and alert.

The trooper and the 61-year-old man driving the pickup were taken to a local hospital with suspected minor injuries. Trooper Ben Gardner said Thursday that his colleague had been released from the hospital and is "away from work healing up."
