Lake Charles, LA : DeRidder teen dies in car crash in Beauregard Parish early Wednesday morning, August 3, 2016

A DeRidder teenager is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Beauregard Parish early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Louisiana State Police Troop D spokesman Sgt. James Anderson said 18-year-old Angela Bridgette Vidrine was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Tabernacle Road, just east of Morris Road near DeRidder.

"The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Honda Accord driven by Vidrine was traveling east on Tabernacle Road at a high rate of speed when the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree," Anderson said.

Anderson said Vidrine was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol use is also a suspected factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained for analysis.

Three passengers in the vehicle were properly restrained and received only minor injuries, he said.
So far this year, Troop D has investigated 20 fatal crashes which resulted in 24 deaths.
