Alfred, ME : Two charged in crash involving truck in York County on Tuesday morning, August 19, 2014

A New Hampshire truck driver and a York County corrections officer were charged Tuesday morning after a truck struck a York County Sheriff’s Office transport van on Route 111, state police said. The sheriff’s van, driven by Roger Lanoie, 51, of Shapleigh, was parked in the breakdown lane so Lanoie could make a phone call, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. Lanoie and his passenger, Brian Maddox, 56, whose hometown was not available, are corrections officers, McCausland said. The truck driver, Edward Reilly, 49, of Rochester, New Hampshire, was traveling behind the van, McCausland said, and told police that as he approached the van, he saw a passenger car swerve into his lane, and when the truck’s tractor cleared the van, the trailer struck the driver’s side of the vehicle. Maddox suffered back pain and was taken by ambulance to Goodall Hospital, while Lanoie was driven to the hospital for minor injuries, McCausland said. Reilly was charged with failing to maintain control of his vehicle, while Lanoie was charged with operating after suspension, as his license had been suspended for failing to pay a prior seat belt violation.
