MILLERSVILLE, TN : I-65 North reopens in Sumner Co. after fatal semi crash on Wednesday, 26th October 2016
I-65 North has reopened after crews cleared the scene of a deadly tractor-trailer fire in Sumner County.Officials on the scene said one semi rear-ended another semi at mile marker 101, which is near Exit 98 in Millersville, at around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
One of the tractor-trailers caught fire after the collision. Other truck drivers saw the crash happen and tried to get the driver out of the burning semi, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol later confirmed the driver had died. The victim was later identified as 61-year-old Billy Dixon of Madison.
According to the preliminary report, the driver and passenger of the other truck were not injured.
Neither of the semis involved in the crash were hauling anything hazardous, according to THP.
The roadway was closed for several hours while emergency crews were on the scene. The Tennessee Department of Transportation said part of the road had to be repaved.
All lanes of I-65 South are open.
