Crown point, IN : Merrillville man injured when car went off the road on southbound Interstate 65 in Crown Point on Sunday night, March 8, 2015

A Merrillville man was taken to the hospital after suffering serious injuries in a car crash on Sunday night. Indiana State Police say the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.

ISP says the crash happened around 8:00pm near the Crown Point ramp on I-65 heading south bound. The vehicle was a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. The car slid off of the road and down into a ditch spinning before the car crashed into the tree on the passenger side.

ISP says based on evidence it is believed the crash was a result of the driver not paying attention and driving at an unsafe speed.

The driver was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary. A toxicology report is pending.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department assisted Indiana State Police on the call.
