Authorities say two California residents were killed and a third critically injured when an SUV traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 in eastern New Mexico went into the median and overturned after a tire blew out.

The New Mexico State Police identified those killed early Monday in the accident west of Santa Rosa as 29-year-old Chelsea Lawson and 6-year-old Natasha Siegel, both from Scotts Valley, California.

According to State Police, both were ejected because they weren't wearing their seatbelts.

The driver was identified by State Police as 40-year-old Aaron Siegel, also from Scotts Valley.

According to State Police, he was wearing his seatbelt but was critically injured and airlifted to an Albuquerque hospital.
