Missoula,MT : Deadly crash closes portion of I-90 near Missoula on October, Wednesday 25th 2017
Montana Highway Patrol is reporting a deadly multi-vehicle crash on I-90 westbound east of Missoula near Bonner. The two westbound lanes from the Turrah exit to the Bonner exit were closed causing delays to drivers, but have since been re-opened.
According to their incident report, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday. The driver, who's confirmed to be a 24-year-old male, was in a commercial pickup truck for the Oregon company DBI going the wrong way down the interstate when he collided with a 54-year old woman driving a small car. The woman has not been identified, but she is confirmed to be deceased by Montana Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Sean Finley said "It's a sad day. Somebody's loved one got killed and we have to determine why that happened." The third vehicle involved crashed while swerving in order to avoid a head on collision with the pickup truck. The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries and has been treated. The driver of the pickup truck is currently at St. Patrick's hospital recovering from his injuries.
While on the scene two officers were also injured during the cleanup as the pickup truck spilled pesticides on the road that got into the officers eyes as they were investigating. These officers have since been treated and are okay. The investigation into why the crashed occurred is ongoing. Sgt. Finley says "There's a lot of unknowns as to why this commercial truck was traveling the wrong way on the interstate we don't know if alcohol or drugs were a factor we're still doing that investigation."
Montana Highway Patrol says they suspect that charges will be filed. We'll provide more updates on this story as they become available.
