Pontiac, IL : Bradley student killed, two others injured in four-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 on Thursday, May 5, 2016

A horrific, four-vehicle accident Thursday on Interstate 55 killed a Bradley University student and sent two others to Peoria hospitals.

Ashley Borja, 20, of Plainfield was pronounced dead at the scene after being thrown from her 2000 Honda Accord, said Livingston County Coroner Danny Watson.

About 1:45 p.m., Borja’s southbound vehicle crossed the median near mile marker 201 and into the northbound lane, where it collided with a northbound Honda Odyssey minivan, tearing Borja’s car apart, according to Illinois State Police.

The Odyssey then struck a Jeep Cherokee, while part of the Accord hit a fourth vehicle, a Volkswagen.

The occupants of the minivan, Rosanne Tenuta, 63, and Krista Tenuta, 19, both of Peoria, were flown to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Rosanne Tenuta was listed in fair condition Friday night at the hospital. Krista Tenuta had been discharged.

The driver of the Cherokee, Donald Moore, 59, of Dwight suffered only minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, and the three occupants of the Volkswagen, Eric Forister, 35, John Luckett, 34, and Erin Bartlett, 36, all of St. Louis, were uninjured, police said.

Borja was a junior at Bradley studying mechanical engineering and studio art. She also was a member of the school’s Student Senate. She also served as president of the student group To Write Love on Her Arms and was actively involved in the school’s Lewis J. Burger Center for Student Leadership and Public Service, which promotes a number of volunteer projects.

Both the Bradley Student Senate and Lewis J. Burger Center for Student Leadership and Public Service published Facebook tributes in her honor.

“Our hearts go out to her family and friends,” Bradley President Gary Roberts said in a release. “She was a vibrant young woman who will be missed by all.”

Bradley flags on campus will fly at half-staff for three days in her honor, the release continued.
