Five people were seriously injured in a car crash near the Taunton-Raynham line early Tuesday morning that trapped them in their vehicle some 100 feet into the woods, officials said.
The car crashed into a tree at about 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of Elm Street West and Prospect Hill Street, said Raynham Fire Chief James Januse. The car was about 100 feet deep in the woods when first responders arrived.
Januse said it took 30 to 40 minutes to extricate all five people from the car.
Three of the victims were flown to area hospitals, including Tufts Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Januse said.
The remaining two were driven by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital and Boston Medical Center.
Januse did not know what caused the vehicle to crash or the condition of the victims.
Taunton police are investigating.
