Byron, CA : Two people hospitalized when car crashes into ditch early Thursday, March 10, 2016

Two people were hospitalized early Thursday when a car ran off a rural highway and into a ditch, a fire official said.

Rescue crews airlifted one person to John Muir Medical Center, and an ambulance took the other to another hospital after the crash but neither had major injuries, Batallion Chief J.D. Helmick of the East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.

Crews were called to the wreck on the Byron Highway at Bruns Road at 12:49 a.m.

Crews saw the car tilted at an angle to its left in the drainage ditch when they arrived. They provided medical treatment at the scene. One person suffered moderate injuries and the other only minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating what may have caused the crash.
