Great Barrington, MA : 14-year-girl injured after snowmobile crash on Sunday morning, February 1, 2015
Great Barrington, Massachusetts
A 14-year-old girl was airlifted to a Springfield hospital after slamming her snowmobile into a tree late Sunday morning.
At 11:24 a.m., Great Barrington police and the Southern Berkshire Ambulance Squad responded to a 911 call reporting a snowmobile crash on West Plain Road. Investigating officers and rescuers arrived to find the female teenager had hit a tree head on. Police didn't identify the girl, only to say she is from the Great Barrington area.
Due to the nature of her injury, which police didn't disclose, and her age, authorities summoned Lifestar helicopter from Hartford, Conn. to fly the victim to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. The teenagers condition is unknown.
Police believe the young snowmobiler was traveling at a moderate rate of speed when she failed to negotiate a corner before crashing into the tree.
The crash remains under investigation by Great Barrington police officer Sam Stolzar and Ryan Storti and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
