Pedestrian killed after walking into busy Orlando traffic

The Florida Highway Patrol said it is trying to figure out why a man stepped off a sidewalk and into the path of an oncoming car Thursday.

Troopers said Clive Shaver, 59, of Orlando, was hit and killed by a car Thursday night in Orange County, along Orange Blossom Trail at 35th Street, just south of the on ramp to I-4.
Shaver was not in a pedestrian crosswalk when he was hit, troopers said.

Carissa John, 21, of Kissimmee, was driving northbound on Orange Blossom Trail, when Shaver was struck by the front, right side of her car.Shaver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Troopers had to direct northbound traffic off Orange Blossom Trail as they investigated the scene. All lanes reopened later Thursday evening.The FHP said the crash remains under investigation. No other details were immediately released.
