Emporia, KS : Emporia woman hospitalized after Monday accident on Monday, August 7, 2017
An Emporia woman was taken to Newman Regional Health after she had a medical issue while driving, causing her to hit a parked car Monday morning.
At about 9:25 a.m. Monday, officers from the Emporia Police Department responded to an injury accident in the 1000 block of Congress Street.
The investigating officer reported a red Chevrolet passenger cary driven by 52-year-old Maria Gutierrez of Emporia had been northbound on Congress Street when she struck a parked vehicle.
"It appears Gutierrez was having a medical condition just prior to the accident," read a written statement from the Emporia Police Department.
After the accident, Gutierrez complained of leg and chest pain. She was transported to Newman Regional Health with non-life threatening injuries. The airbag deployed and Gutierrez was wearing a seatbelt.
No traffic citations are expected to be issued, according to the Emporia Police Department.
