An SUV crashed into a parked tractor truck about 7:30 p.m. Thursday near U.S. 59 a few miles south of Wharton city limits.
The wreck occurred just outside Juniors Smokehouse on County Road 467, where a tractor truck was parked along a bend in the roadway, said Lane Tabola, a smokehouse employee. As of 10 p.m. Thursday, the name of the driver was unavailable.
"This is not figurative. The entire passenger side of the (SUV) was gone," said Tabola, who estimated the SUV was traveling at least 60 mph.
The SUV and its unidentified driver were "swerving everywhere" moments before crashing into the rear of the unoccupied tractor truck, Tabola said.
Tabola said he had not heard about anyone being killed.
As of 10 p.m., the Wharton Police Department was unable to release information about injuries.
Southbound lanes of U.S. 59 were closed for at least an hour, Tabola said.
