A single car crash involving four former Carlson High School students has claimed the lives of two of them, leaving two others in critical condition in a Lansing hospital.Tariq V. Strong, 23, of Lincoln Park, and Madison C. Cooke, 19, of Gibraltar died in the crash that occurred at about 6 a.m. Monday in Delhi Charter Township near Lansing.Megan E. Ockerman, 18, of Dearborn remains in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, along with Gina M. Badia, 19, of Southgate.According to police, the vehicle the four were in hit a tree on the eastbound I-96 exit ramp onto northbound U.S. 127. One of the passengers called 911 from a cellphone.Strong was found buckled in his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Cooke died upon arrival at Sparrow Hospital.Sgt. Robert Ott of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Department said a passenger told police that they were returning from the Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, about 130 miles outside of Lansing.According to its website, about 45,000 people attended this year’s outdoor music festival, which took place Thursday through Sunday.According to police, the cause of the crash remains open.A press release issued Monday from the sheriff’s department said drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash.“We are investigating a statement made by a passenger about drug use,” Ott said Tuesday afternoon. “None were found in the car.”
