LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA : Woman dies in fiery crash after hitting tree on Monday, 31st October 2016

A woman died after the truck she was driving hit a tree and caught fire Monday evening, according to authorities.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Jana Cornette, 30, of Greensburg.

Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 449 north of LA 63 near Pine Grove in Livingston Parish.

Tpr. Bryan Lee said the investigation so far showed Cornette was headed north in a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado when her truck crossed the center line and went off the road. He added the truck then went into a ditch, hit a tree, flipped onto its roof and caught fire.

According to Lee, Cornette was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. He added because of the fire, investigators were not able to determine whether Cornette was properly buckled up.

Lee also stated it is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash. As with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Cornette’s blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
