Greenville, SC : Landrum High student dead after a single-vehicle crash in Greenville County on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2015

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said troopers responded to a fatal crash Wednesday morning.

According to the Highway Patrol website, the crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. on SC-11 at Dill Road.

Greenville County Coroner Kent Dill said a driver lost control rounding a curve and was not wearing a seatbelt.

Dill said the car entered the woods where the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The Spartanburg School District One identified the victim as Jordan Skyler Powell, a junior at Landrum High School.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Skyler's family during this difficult time,” Landrum High School Principal Jason McCraw said. “Our students and faculty have lost a wonderful young man and our hearts are very heavy today. Please keep our school family in your thoughts and prayers."

A representative from the school district said Powell was a football player for Landrum High.

Coroner Dill said Powell was on the way to school when the wreck occurred. Dill determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
