St. Martin Parish, LA : Breaux Bridge man, 53, killed after motorcyle crash on La. 3177 on Friday, April 22, 2016

A Breaux Bridge man died Friday after he lost control of his motorcycle in a curve and was thrown from the bike, State Police said.

Jeffery Smith, 53, was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson south on La. 3177 about 9 p.m. Friday when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a news release. Smith ran off the left side of the road and on to an embankment, throwing him off the motorcycle.

The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Smith dead at the scene, David said.

Smith was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet, David said. Toxicology results are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
