Canarsie, NY : 35-year-old Sidney Ramsarup killed in a hit and run crash in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015

A Brooklyn woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Canarsie early Tuesday morning.

Sidney Ramsarup, 35, was struck by a tan SUV heading south just before 5:30 a.m. at East 108th Street and Glenwood Road, police said.

The driver fled the scene, police said.

With all of the traffic lights, it’s not a place known for speeding, CBS2’s Emily Smith reported.

The mother of three was found unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to the body. She was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

There’s no word where she was heading, but it happened three blocks from her apartment where she lived with her kids 17, 9 and 7 years old, Smith reported.

“It’s a tough loss,” a longtime neighbor of Ramsarup’s told 1010 WINS’ Al Jones. “Everybody knows her. She was always loud with the laughter and the joking and stuff like that.”

“If you hit somebody you stop and check on them or something,” an area resident told Smith.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.

Police are asking for the public’s help with tracking down the tan SUV, which now has front-end damage.
