PORT RICHEY, FL : Male passenger, 27, dies in Suncoast Parkway crash on Wednesday, 21st March 2018

A 27-year-old male passenger died early Wednesday morning, when the car’s driver crashed into the back of a tractor trailer on Suncoast Parkway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Shortly after 6 a.m., Daniel Baxter, 34, drove himself and a male passenger in a 2017 Toyota Corolla going south on State Road 589.

John Preston, 56, was driving a tractor trailer ahead of Baxter, troopers said.

Preston began to slow the tractor trailer just south of County Line Road, troopers said, for other traffic going south.

Authorities said Baxter didn’t slow down and collided with the back of the tractor trailer.

The male passenger, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. Baxter had serious injuries and was taken to Regional Medical Bayonet Point by authorities.

Preston had no injuries.

Authorities said charges are pending.
