LAS VEGAS, NV : 17-year-old dead after collision in east Las Vegas on Monday, 18th March 2024

A teen is dead after being struck by a pickup truck near a park in east Las Vegas.

The crash occurred on Monday, just before 9:30 p.m., when the pickup truck hit a person at the intersection of Tree Line Drive and Back Woods Road near Lewis Family Park in east Las Vegas.

Investigators believe the truck, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, was driving south at a high speed on Tree Lane Drive when an unidentified 17-year-old man crossed outside of a marked crosswalk. The teen was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Jesus Barraza, 18 of Las Vegas, remained at the scene and was arrested on reckless driving charges.

The teen’s death represents the 40th traffic-related fatality of the year in LVMPD jurisdiction. The crash remains under investigation.
