Jefferson City, MO : St. Louis area man killed in one-vehicle crash on Highway 40 on Friday, December 2nd, 2016

A 35-year-old St. Louis area man was fatally injured early Friday after crashing on Highway 40 (Interstate 64) near McKnight Road, authorities say.

The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the victim as Gary D. Byrd.

The crash was in the eastbound lanes of Highway 40 just before 2 a.m. Friday, west of McKnight.

The patrol said Byrd was driving a 2001 Infiniti QX4. The patrol said Byrd was inattentive, and his car traveled off the north side of the highway before hitting the median wall and overturning.

Byrd was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
