LAKEVILLE, MA : 1 dead, three hurt in motorcycle crash on Sunday, 16th October 2016
A motorcycle accident claimed one life Sunday morning on Route 18, the Lakeville fire department said Sunday afternoon.
The Lakeville Police Department later said they received several reports at 10:10 a.m. of a motor vehicle accident on Bedford Street near Tamarack Park involving two motorcycles and one vehicle.
When Lakeville Police officers and firefighters arrived to the scene, they found a 77-year-old motorcycle operator dead, Lakeville Police said.
A 74-year-old female, who was a passenger on one of the motorcycles, was transported by MedFlight to Rhode Island Hospital. Another motorcycle operator, a 53-year-old male, was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital.
The vehicle operator, a 56-year-old female, was transported to Morton Hospital in Taunton, Lakeville Police said.
The names of the victims are being held until family is notified, they said.
At 12:30 p.m., police weren't allowing bystanders near the site of the accident.
Around 1 p.m., roads had been blocked off for two hours by police on Bedford Street by Parkhurst Drive to Highland Road by Tamarack Park and traffic was still being diverted.
Middleboro and Freetown police and fire personnel, Plymouth County Sherriff's Department and Massachusetts State Police helped with the investigation, scene and MedFlight evacuation, Lakeville Police said. The accident is under investigation and is being reconstructed by State Police, the Lakeville Police said.
