Bowie, MD : Two-year-old girl dead and grandmother injured when hit by van while walking in Bowie o Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2015

Officials say a young girl is dead and her grandmother has two broken legs after they were struck by a van in Bowie.

Authorities say the two were walking Saturday afternoon at Laurel-Bowie Road and Old Chapel Road when they were struck.

Authorities say that the vehicle that hit them was trying to make a left turn off of Old Chapel Road onto Laurel-Bowie Road when it struck them. Both the girl and her grandmother were taken to a hospital. The girl was pronounced dead and her grandmother is in serious condition.

The driver remained on the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
