Detroit, MI : Two people killed in a crash on Saturday, June 3, 2017
The two people killed in a crash on southbound Interstate 75 at Mack on Saturday have been identified as a 22-year-old Commerce Township woman and a 23-year-old White Lake woman, Michigan State Police said Sunday.
State Police responded to the crash at about 11 a.m. Saturday and learned that a 2011 Ford Edge was headed southbound on I-75, in the center lane, at the same time a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee was in the left lane. Then the Grand Cherokee entered the center lane, striking the Edge. At that point the driver of the Cherokee lost control, and the Jeep spun out and rolled over.
The driver of the Edge then lost control and hit a 1999 Ford van, which spun out and hit a 2015 GMC Terrain. The Terrain then lost control and that vehicle rolled over as well.
A 2017 Chevy Equinox was also hit, but investigators don’t yet know which vehicle hit it. That’s one of the many questions about the crash that Michigan State Police crash reconstructionists will work to answer as the investigation proceeds.
At the end of the carnage, 10 people were transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries and serious injuries, the statement said. Two people killed were passengers in the Jeep Cherokee.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call and share what they know at (734) 287-5000.
While state police case was initially portrayed the crash as a case of road rage, the statement issued Sunday said the Grand Cherokee moved to the center lane “for a yet to be determined reason.”
“The exact cause of the crash has not been determined,” the statement said, “and is still under investigation pending autopsy results, vehicle inspections, and evidence possessing and interviews.”
