BEXAR COUNTY, TX : 3 killed in wrong-way collision in south Bexar County on Sunday, 21st July 2024

An off-duty Bexar County deputy was one of three people killed following a deadly wrong-way collision early Sunday morning, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The San Antonio Police Department received a call just before 2 a.m. for a pickup truck driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 37 near Loop 1604.

Minutes later, authorities said the pickup truck, a Ford F150, crashed head-on into a Ford Mustang with Deputy Meredith Portillo, 20, and two other people inside of it.

After the collision, the Ford F150 rolled over and burst into flames.

Deputy Portillo and one of the passengers of the Mustang were killed upon impact of the collision, authorities said. The second passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious bodily injury.
