Calhoun, AL : Two people killed in U.S. 27 wreck on Friday afternoon, July 8, 2016

Police are hoping that someone can supply them with information about a car that was involved in a wreck that killed two people Friday afternoon on U.S. 27.

According to Lt. Chris DeHart, of the Rome Police Department, selective enforcement unit and Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor:

At 1:22 p.m. Friday, Micah Evans, 41, of Cedar­town, was driving north in the inside lane of U.S. 27 in a F-450 flatbed truck. As he approached Walker Mountain Road, a black Hyundai Sante Fe traveling south and driven by Troy Pitts, 46, of Albertville, Alabama, crossed into Evans’ lane and the two vehicles crashed.

Pitts and his wife, Christina Hernandez, 41, who was a passenger in the SUV, were declared dead at the scene.

Evans was taken to Floyd Medical Center where he was treated and released Friday evening.

DeHart said a third vehicle played a role in the incident.

“The driver of the Hyundai made a hard swerve trying to avoid a car that entered the lane he was in,” said DeHart. “This forced the Hyundai into oncoming traffic.”

DeHart said he is hoping that someone witnessed the wreck and can help the police find the car that caused Pitts to drive the Hyundai into oncoming traffic.

“If anyone was in the area at the time and saw anything that could help us, I am asking them to please call me,” he said.
